Measurements have been made, at room temperature, of the wear of a flat steel annulus flooded with lubricant and rotating about its axis in a horizontal plane pressed against the lower horizontal end of a small (1 mm. diameter) stationary, vertical, cylindrical pin. It was found that steady reproducible wear rates could be obtained only when one of the surfaces was relatively soft and other extremely hard and comparatively rough.
