Elderflower contains flavonoles, the most important of them being quercetin. These molecules have an important antioxidant effect. The goal of our study was to evaluate which conservation technique of elderflower results the highest concentration of rutin and and phenolic compounds. Further we evaluated the protective effects of these extracts against nephrotoxicity induced by gentamicin in rats. Sambucus nigra extract demonstrates nephroprotective effects in gentamicin-induced renal toxicity, significantly improving outcome and evolution in rats.
In modern veterinary medicine, like in human medicine all major surgery procedures must be performed under balanced anaesthesia. This protocol contained substances that insure: neurovegetativ protection, analgesia, miorelaxation, hypnosis. Rocuronium represent a nondepolarizing agent, intermediate acting ( 60-120 seconds), with relative long effects ( 40-90 minutes), and with the posibility of effect reversal ( agents-Sugammadex). The aim of this study was monitorization of clinical, haematological and biochemical parameters perioperative in dogs scheduled for orthopedic procedures. This study was performed on ive canine patients (different breed, with age between 4 months to 11 years), scheduled for femoral had resection procedure. In this dogs balanced anaesthesia was performed: induction with propofol to effect, maintained with sevo lurane 2.5%; analgesic component: fentanyl 3μg/kg b.w.-bolus followed by CRI 5 μg/kg b.w./min, the neuromuscular blocking agent was represented by rocuronium 0.4 mg/kg b.w. Haematological analysis were performed with Abacus Junior Vet 3 diff analyzer, biochemical parameters with UV-VIS Screen Master Touch Hospitex Diagnostic spectrophotometer, and electrolytes with GEM Premier 2000 analyzer. The majority of biochemical and mineral parameters suffered only small changes, without statistical importance. After the surgery we determined only a slight reduction of erythrocyte number, haemoglobin and PCV, a mild increase of γ-globulin. Regarding the clinical parameters only internal temperatures was modi ied. We recommend the use of rocuronium in orthopedic procedures for the advantages offered in the surgical act (profound miorelaxation) without any major biochemical, haematological, electrolytes alteration.
The purpose of the study was to demonstrate in vitro antioxidant activity and in vivo toxicity of the Artemisia Annua L. extract. The plant was harvested from Bihor area (Crisul Repede and Negru river valleys), Romania. Preparation of the plant product and of the lyophilizated extract was carried out in accordance with the Romanian Pharmacopeia Xth Edition. Lyophilized extract was evaluated in terms of polyphenol content using HPLC method. Antioxidant activity was highlighted using the DPPH, ABTS and FRAP methods. Hepatic, renal and haematological toxicity studies have been performed on laboratory mice. For this purpose blood and organs were collected. Biochemical and haematological parameters were determined on the blood samples and histopathological examination was performed on organs. In vitro antioxidant effect of Artemisia Annua L extract and its lack of in vivo toxicity were demonstrated. It is desirable to obtain a new phytoproduct harvested from spontaneous flora of Romania with antioxidant / antitumoral properties and which is devoid of toxicity.
The aim of the study was to assess the effect of a probiotic product based on Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis and Pediococcus acidilactici on hematological parameters for dogs with apparent intestinal dysbiosis. Also, a comparison between the results obtained before and after the treatment was made, in order to establish if the probiotic treatment is able to improve the hematological results for dogs with apparent dysbiosis. A total number of 5 dogs, aged between 7 months and 6 years old were clinically evaluated for gastro-intestinal problems that lead to the suspicion of apparent intestinal dysbiosis. The probiotic administration respected the producer recommendations and it was given to the dogs together with their usual food, one capsule/day, 30 days consecutively. On the first and 31 days of the study, blood samples were collected and hematological parameters were evaluated. A heterogeneity in the hematological results was observed. However, when results from day 0 were compared with results obtained in day 31, the variance was considered to be physiological. Also, the small diferences between the values before and after the treatment can not be attributed only to the probiotic treatment. The results obtained regarding the dynamics of the hematological parameters provided data that sustain the benefic effect of this probiotic combination, without a direct impact on hematological parameters.
Spore-based Bacillus spp. products are considered to have a higher probiotic potential compared to products containing only lactic acid bacteria because their viability in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is higher, even when GI environmental conditions are unfavorable. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of a Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis and Pediococcus acidilactici spore-based potential probiotic on the natural levels of postprandial endotoxemia. A total of 11 dogs completed the study: group 1—healthy dogs: n = 5; group 2—dogs with apparent dysbiosis: n = 6. For 30 days, the dogs were fed the probiotic product; clinical examinations and blood sampling were done before and after completion of the probiotic treatment. Endotoxin levels were assessed pre-meal, 6 h and 12 h post-meal, before initiation and after completion of the treatment. The results showed a decrease in endotoxin levels after treatment, especially 12 h post-meal (group 1: 20.60%; group 2: 44.93%). This study reports new information with regard to natural endotoxemia levels in dogs and suggests that a multi-strain formula (spore-based) consisting of B. subtilis, B. licheniformis and P. acidilactici is able to diminish endotoxin values.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
