Hydrostatic density determination for liquids is mainly performed by laboratories to provide means for calibrating liquid density measuring instruments such as oscillation-type density meters. From 2002 to 2005 the CIPM key comparison CCM.D-K2 ‘comparison of liquid density standards’ was carried out piloted by the PTB. The aim was to compare the results of the density determination by the participating laboratories to support entries to the CMC tables in this sub-field. To provide further laboratories the possibility to support their entries to the CMC tables at the meeting of the EUROMET Working Group on Density in 2007 this comparison was agreed on. BEV (Austria) organized the comparison supported by the PTB (Germany). For the comparison samples of pentadecane, water, tetrachloroethylene and of an oil of high viscosity were measured in the temperature range from 5 °C to 60 °C at atmospheric pressure by hydrostatic weighing. The measurements were completed in 2008. The reference values of the first reports based on the draft of the CCM.D-K2. A EURAMET key comparison of the national pressure standards in the range 0.7 MPa to 7.0 MPa of gas gauge pressure was carried out. The circulation of the transfer standard began in November 2011 and lasted until November 2016. The measurand of the comparison was the effective area of the piston-cylinder assembly determined by gauge pressure measurements in the range from 0.7 MPa to 7.0 MPa. As the comparison reference value, the weighted mean of the results of the laboratories with primary pressure standards was used. With this reference value, all the participants who delivered the results demonstrated equivalence respective to the reference value within expanded uncertainties (k = 2) on all the range. The results of this comparison were linked to CCM key comparison CCM.P-K1.c. Also in relation to the reference values of CCM.P-K1.c, all participants demonstrated agreement within expanded uncertainties (k = 2) at all pressure points. It was decided at the EURAMET TC-M meeting in Torino in 2006 to realize a comparison in gauge and absolute pressure up to 200 kPa as it would allow establishing a link to the CCM.P-K6 and CCM.P-K2 comparisons. This project from the beginning interested a lot of laboratories with participants, 22 of which have submitted results. The circulation of the transfer standard began on July 2009 and lasted until January 2012. No major problem occurred during the transport.The mesurand of the comparison is the effective area of a piston-cylinder determined in gauge and absolute pressure from 25 kPa to 200 kPa with pressure steps of 25 kPa. The transfer standard is a gas lubricated tungsten carbide piston-cylinder with an effective area of ~9.8 cm 2 , fabricated by DH Instruments and compatible with a PG-7601 pressure balance. Some participants used their own pressure balance while a pressure balance with a reference vacuum sensor has been circulated for the participants not equipped with this system.One participant (SMU, Slovakia) has never provided the measurement results and another participant (FORCE Technology, Denmark) submitted a revised set of measurement results after the pilot laboratory mentioned that the equivalence was not met.After the determination of the reference value, all the 22 participants who delivered the results in gauge pressure demonstrated equivalence respective to the reference value on most of the range. In absolute pressure the equivalence is demonstrated, for all nominal pressures, by all 17 participants who submitted results.
This project was a European regional bilateral key comparison of stainless steel standards of 100 mg, 2 g, 20 g, and 500 g as a submultiple of the kilogram carried out under the auspices of EURAMET and designated project 1345. This comparison is also a KCDB Regional Key Comparison, registered as EURAMET.M.M-K2.6.The objectives of the comparison were to check the measurement capabilities in the field of mass of BEV and provide a basis for the review of new calibration measurement capabilities (CMC).Results are linked to the key comparison reference values of CCM.M-K2.BEV (Austria) was the pilot laboratory and the provider of the transfer standards. Main text This report presents the results of the key comparison EURAMET.M.D-K4.2020 (EURAMET 1496) that covered the calibration of high-resolution hydrometers for liquid in the density range 600 kg/m3 to 2000 kg/m3 at the reference temperature of 20 oC. Nine laboratories participated in this key comparison, eight European national metrology institutes and one from Asia Pacific metrology: NIM from China. The participating laboratories were initially divided into two petals linked by two density laboratories: INRIM and PTB. In each petal, four similar transfer standards, hydrometers in the density range 600 kg/m3 to 2000 kg/m3 are used. The equipment used by the participants was found to have very similar characteristics. Most of the declared relative uncertainties were within the 5x10-5. The results of all participated laboratories have been linked to the CIPM key comparison CCM.D-K4 by INRIM and PTB. Discrepant results have been reported for three laboratories, which, however, do not affect their CMCs. To reach the main text of this paper, click on Final Report.
