Uniform YF 3 :Eu 3+ phosphors with different sizes and morphologies have been prepared via a simple wet-chemical route at ambient pressure and low temperature, without any catalyst, template, or substrate. The morphologies of the YF 3 :Eu 3+ samples can be changed by easily tuning the reaction temperature and fluoride source. The as-obtained YF 3 :Eu 3+ samples exhibit orange-red emission corresponding to the 5 D 0 -7 F 1 transition of the Eu 3+ ions under UV excitation, which indicates that the Eu 3+ locates in a site with inversion symmetry in the YF 3 matrix. After a calcination treatment, the particle size, morphology, and dispersion of the YF 3 :Eu 3+ samples are preserved, but the crystallinity noticeably enhances. This general, simple, and low-cost method may be of much significance in the synthesis of other lanthanide fluorides with various sizes and morphologies.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
