This paper deals with the topic of selective compression of SAR images. A novel algorithm based on the use of irregular and adaptive sampling is presented: good compression ratios can be achieved selecting the Regions Of Interest (ROT) within the image in order to represent them with an adequate set of samples, while the textured or uniform background is roughly sampled. The method here presented has been tested on several SAR images obtaining very good performance. An example of application is given in this paper.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
