To improve the growing of single crystals for structural analysis, especially those of low-melting-point materials, a new technique and the appropriate apparatus have been developed. The heat radiation of a halogen lamp of adjustable intensity is focused by a parabolic mirror on the sample capillary, which is mounted on a diffractometer and cooled by a gas stream at a controlled temperature. The focus can be moved along the length of the capillary in any direction, for horizontal or vertical miniature zone melting or Bridgman techniques. The heat source and the movable mirror are controlled by a microprocessor, which allows systematic and software-supported search and reproduction of suitable experimental growing conditions.
Die Dehydratisierung von NaaPHO3 · 5 H2O zum wasserfreien Salz wurde mit Thermogravimetrie und Differentialthermoanalyse untersucht. Die Entwässerung verläuft über die Stufe eines intermediären niederen Hydrates, Na2PHO3 · 0,5 H2O. Einkristalle des Hemihydrates konnten aus Lösung gezüchtet werden; es kristallisiert rhomboedrisch, Raumgruppe R32, R3m oder R3m, mit a = 18,918(5) ß und α = 33,00(2)°. – Die Kristallstruktur von Na2PHO3 · 5 H2O wurde neu bestimmt. Das Pentahydrat kristallisiert orthorhombisch, Raumgruppe Pnm21 mit a = 7,109(1), b = 6,447(1), c = 9,230(2) Å. Die Struktur ist aus Schichten von kanten‐ und eckenverknüpften Na‐Koordinationspolyedern aufgebaut. Die Schichten werden durch Wasserstoffbrückenbindungen der Wassermoleküle zu einem dreidimensionalen Strukturverband verknüpft.
Triethanolammonium tetrachloroantimonate was synthesized and investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis. The structure consists of SbCl3 molecules, chloride ions and triethanolammonium cations. The SbCl3 molecules and the cations form adducts by a bridging O-atom at 274.3 pm. The Sb-Cl distances within the SbCl3 molecule are 239.2, 240.3 and 245.3 pm, whereas the distances from the Sb atom th the Cl- ion are 290.2 and 332.1 pm.
