ChemInform Abstract Eulytite-like compounds A3.5B0.5(PO4)3 with A/B= Pb/Th, Pb/Ti, Sr/Th, and Ba/Th are synthesized and their structures are studied. Despite the long annealing times (several days at 600-800 rc C) no superstructure is observed, i.e., the cationic sites are randomly occupied. After incorporation of Eu3+, the emission spectra reveal a local ordering in the Pb compounds. This ordering is discussed in terms of the covalency of the Pb-O bonds and the stereochemical role of the lone electron pair of Pb(II).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
