The tribological properties of the composite reinforced with TiC carbide particles synthesized on the base of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy were investigated. It was determined that the wear resistance of the TMCs compared to Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy, obtained by the method of powder metallurgy, in the friction pairs with Cu-10Al-4Fe-4Ni bronze and Fe-0.45C hardened steel under the conditions of boundary lubrication increased by 11 and 1.3 times, respectively. The wear mechanisms of the investigated tribopairs were determined. It was shown that due to the addition of solid TiC inclusions into Ti-6Al-4V alloy matrix, the wear mechanism of the friction pairs was changed from adhesion-fatigue to abrasive-fatigue.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
