We undertook a randomized controlled trial comparing VasoSeal, a collagen vascular hemostasis device (VHD), with manual compression to assess its role and potential cost savings in the PTCA population. Of 460 patients, 359 were excluded due to clinical instability (30%), groin problems (18%), suboptimal PTCA result (15%), and other reasons (37%). The remaining 101 patients were randomized to either VHD (51) or manual compression (50). Hemostasis time, time to ambulation, duration of hospital stay, and nursing time and intensity were significantly reduced in the VHD group. There were no major groin complications in either treatment arm but there was a trend toward more minor groin complications in the VHD patients. The application of VasoSeal reduced resource use in this randomized study and may translate into significant cost reductions in the general coronary angioplasty population.
Between November 1970 and November 1972 nine sampling trips were carried out in the Friesian Lake District, Fourteen lakes were sampled . The chemical composition of the lake water, chlorophyll-a content and the species composition and population densities of zooplankton and benthos were determined simultaneously . Results are discussed in relation to the hydrology of the Lakes system and the morphometry of the individual lakes . The lakes showed a high degree of similarity .
The distribution and production of larval chironomids in Tjeukemeer, a shallow, moderately large and wind exposed lake, were estimated between 1969 and 1972 . The following seven species together contributed more than 95% of all the individuals collected: Chironomus anthracinus, Chironomus plumosus, Cladotanytarsus mancus, Glyptotendipes pallens, Polypedilum nubeculosum, Polypedilum scalaenum and Stictochironomus histrio . Density and biomass distribution depended generally on the substrate type and its stability .
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
