This study was conducted to evaluate the potential use of currently available 2091 and 8090 alloys as forging material. Three different product forms have been studied : - Precision die forgings such as window frames, fittings... - Conventional die forgings such as wheels, tubes... - Thick hand forgings (thickness up to 150 mm)
This paper presents t h e s t a t e of development a t PECHINEY in t e r m s of property goals (replacement of existing alloys) and product forms. T h e main a r e a s of research in progress, achievements and prospects regarding commercialization a r e given. Typical values measured on sheets, extrusions, forgings and tubes a r e given, t o g e t h e r with engineering properties. Most results r e l a t e t o d a m a g e tolerance and medium strength types of replacement. They a r e all based on industrial production. Progress regarding t h e o t h e r product forms, mainly t h e thicker ones, and regarding higher strength alloys will also b e outlined.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
