The 15.11 MeV energy level in x2C was excited by bremsstrahlung. The seattered photons were detected with a total ? absorption NaI(TI)apoetrometer set at 135 ~ to the bremsstrahlung beato. The following level parameterswere obtained: ~r ~ = (17.9 :~ 0.6) barn,/'tot = (69 • 4) eV and ain t--~ (1.86 • 0.12) mb MeV. The branching ratio to the first excited state and the ground state is F?l//'?o = (3.6 + 1.0)%.
Experimental Techniques for Photon Scattering below 140 MeV The facilities for photon scattering experiments at the Mainz electron linear accelerator are described. They include an energy analyzing system, the bremsstrahlung target and a photon spectrometer (NaI-crystals). The question of background elimination is discussed. The scattered photon spectrum from a carbon target is presented.
