Kodo millet (Paspalum scrobiculatum L.) is popularly comes in the category of coarse cereals and included in the broad category of cereals. Kodo millet is nutritionally superior to rice and wheat and presence of all the required nutrients, which make it suitable for industrial scale utilization in food stuff .It is also a good source of protein, carbohydrate and rich source of minerals, fibers, vitamins and micronutrients. Studies of engineering properties of variety Indira Kodo-I (Paspalum scrobiculatum L.) was conduct in moisture range from 8.19 to 12.71 per cent (db). It was found the length, width and thickness ranged from 2.61 to 2.74 mm, 1.96 to 2.23 mm and 1.33 to 1.45 mm, respectively. The length-breadth ratio ranged from 1.33 to 1.23, the size ranged from 1.90 to 2.07 mm, the Sphericity varied from 0.73 to 0.76. Surface area and volume ranged from 9.06 to 11.53 m 2 , 2.59 to 3.46 m 3 respectively. It was further observed that the bulk density decreased from Kodo is 0.67 to 0.62 gml -1 , and true density increased from 1.20 to 1.24 gml -1 , porosity ranged from 43.99 to 50.27 per cent, the Angle of repose increased from 25°28' to 26°05'.
A manually operated onion grader was designed, developed and evaluated at I.I.H.R., Bangalore for Rose onion verities commonly cultivated in Bangalore into three grades based on geometric dimensions of the selected variety. The linear dimensions like polar diameter, equatorial diameter and thickness of Rose onions were found in the range of 21.92-54.54 mm, 15.83-59.13 mm and 16.52-50.22 mm, respectively. The angle of repose of Rose onions were found as 54.5°, and coefficient of static friction for onions on different surfaces like galvanized iron 0.402, for stainless steel 0.414, for aluminum 0.386, for mild steel 0.522 and for plywood 0.366, respectively. Experiments were conducted with three types of slopes, at each slope three different feed gate opening lengths and two swing directions. The statistical analysis showed that the standardized parameters were slope 4°, length wise swing direction and feed gate at full opening. The grader has a grading capacity 1105 kg/h at overall grading efficiency 75 per cent and required grading efficiency 75 per cent. The operation cost of machine was 6 times less than manual operation cost.
In vivo screening of natural farming product like bheejamrutha and cotton cake individually and in combination with mancozeb tolerant fungal antagonist Trichoderma viride isolate 3 (Tv-3) and fungicide mancozeb were tested against Rhizoctonia bataticola in pot culture under green house conditions and field conditions. The results revealed that seed treatment with bheejamrutham (200 ml kg -1 ) + soil application of Tv-3 conidial suspension @1×10 8 CFU ml -1 fortified with 100 kg FYM @ 0.5% + soil application of cotton cake @ 200 kg ha -1 was found to be superior as it recorded the least disease incidence of 11.11 per cent and maximum shoot length, root length, highest vigour index, maximum fresh and dry weight. Integrated disease management of dry root rot of chickpea indicates that seed treatment with bheejamrutham (200 ml kg -1 ) + soil application of Tv-3 conidial suspension @ 1×10 8 CFU ml -1 fortified with 100 kg FYM @ 0.5% + soil application of cotton cake @ 200 kg ha -1 performed better in managing dry root rot of chickpea with a per cent disease reduction of 65.04 and recorded highest yield of 2263 kg ha -1 followed by seed treatment with mancozeb @ 2.5 g kg -1 + soil application of Tv-3 conidial suspension @ 1×10 8 CFU ml -1 fortified with 100 kg FYM @ 0.5%. + soil application of cotton cake @ 200 kg ha -1
