Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) crosslinked chemically with aldehyde reagents produces membranes which demonstrate oxidation resistance, dimensional stability, low ionic resistivity (<0.8 ohm-cm2), low zincate diffusivity (350 mini which make them suitable for use as alkaline battery separators. They are intrinsically low in cost and_environmental health and safety problems associated with conBerciai production appear minimal. Preparation, property measurements and cell r test results in NilZn and AglZn cells are described and discussed.
