T h ree-dimensional (3D) s ha p e models have recentl y been used in various fields including machine designing, internet mall, and medical a pp lication. Therefore, efficient management and reuse of 3D sha p e models is becoming im p ortant with research on object searching of 3D sha p e models. 3D sha p e model searching requires taking into consideration rotation, scaling, and translation of models. This p a p er p ro p oses a method to search 3D objects to include and account for the above conditions. The p ro p osed method acquires 2D range images b y rendering a 3D object from man y view p oints, and discretel y a pp roximating two of the three degrees of rotational freedom b y a finite number of view p oints. Using the p hase correlation method on the range image one can estimate the rotation around one axis, include scaling and translation, and com p are the similarities between the in p ut with models in a dictionar y . Ex p erimental results show that whether models match or not match can be distinguished even when the su pp osed view p oints are limited to a finite number.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
