Barium stannate (BaSnO3) was prepared by solid state ceramic route. The crystalline phase of the prepared sample was confirmed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) pattern. Gas sensing behaviour of barium stannate was investigated for reducing and oxidizing gases; such as butane, ethanol, CO and NO2; from 5 ppm to 50 ppm levels of concentration. Barium stannate sensors were optimized for highest responsiveness by varying operating temperature between 270 o C to 550 o C. Its highest response was observed for ethanol at 300 o C. The gas sensing response of ethanol was better than other gases at all the operating temperatures. Such studies in conjunction with gas sensing tests can be used for setting the optimum operating temperatures and can be used for low concentration ethanol sensing applications.
A 36 MHz surface acoustic wave delay line based oscillator has been used to study the effect of acousto-electric interaction due to photo generated charge carriers in rf sputtered ZnO film under UV illumination (λ = 365 nm, 20–100 μW/cm2). Design aspects for developing a delay line based SAW oscillator are specified. The observed linear downshift in frequency (2.2 to 19.0 kHz) with varying UV intensity (20–100 μW/cm2) is related to the fractional velocity change due to acousto-electric interaction. UV illumination level of 100 μW/cm2 leads to a characteristic frequency hopping behavior arising due to a change in the oscillation criteria, and is attributed to the complex interplay between the increased attenuation and velocity shift.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
