The thermally induced phase separation of aqueous poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide) (PDEA)
was studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry and UV−visible spectrophotometry. The polymer
was shown to have a well-defined lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of 33 °C. The addition of
sodium chloride to the polymer solution resulted in a linear decrease of the LCST. Sodium dodecyl sulfate,
at concentrations up to its critical micelle concentration, caused a gradual increase in the LCST of PDEA.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
