Kegiatan pengabadian ini bertujuan untuk membantu jemaat Tuhan di Gereja Bethel (Gereja Pentakosta) Kecapi Sion, Kemiri-Sentani dalam menyelesaikan penyebab kevakuman ibadah yang sering dialami. Metode yang digunakan dalam melakukan kegiatan yang kemudian dibagi dalam beberapa bagian yaitu observasi, dan IDI (Interview mendalam), kegiatan inti, dan dokumentasi/publikasi. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini menunjukkan bahwa ada 2 penyebab terjadinya kevakuman beribadah yang dialami gereja yaitu (1) keadaan alam dan (2) ketidakkonsistenan gembala. Cara altrnatif yang diterapkan untuk mencegah kevakuman beribadah adalah (1) Tim membuat meja jamuan yang berfungsi ganda untuk menjamu tamu gereja sesuai dengan kebiasaan Papua dan untuk pencegah genangan air di hakam gereja (2) Tim akan membantu jemaat dengan cara membangun koneksi dan kerjasama dalam memberikan pelayanan ke gereje ini.

We use language functions in various situations to achieve our purposes and meanings. Papuan Christianity life in the city, especially in GKI who live in Sentani, is educated by preachers’ sermons. This study aims to determine the language functions used by preachers in GKI churches in Sentani and their relations to the local education of Papua. This study used a qualitative method. The technique used to collect data was recording 12 samples in 4 weeks. The data was transcribed and reduced, and after that, indexed into the table as displayed data. The data was analysed based on the distribution of micro functions introduced by Leech. Firstly, the data was percentage to examine the dominance of language functions and then analysed by considering the phenomenon embodied. The results of this study reveal that the dominant language functions in preachers’ sermons are (1) informative, which consists of giving advice, lecturing, suggesting, and announcing; (2) the aesthetic function is signed with local language style and code-mixing/switching; (3) the expressive function demands the congregations’ attitude that indicates positive expression; (4) directive function is formed by request; (5) phatic function is constructed in the forms of contextual greetings, namely spirituality and local greeting of Papua.

Informative function has function to represents one’s understanding of fact and knowledge, to communicate information, and to deliver message. In sermons’ preachers in GKI churches of Jayapura give view that language in theological context can be elaborated with local education/wisdom in Sentani.  This study tries to figure out micro function of informative function used by the preacher in educating their congregation. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative with the technique of recording. The data was transcribed and then reduced. The reduction data then was indexed into table as data displayed. The analysis of data was done based on the elements and features of language used in informative function. The results show that the micro functions of informative function used by the preachers are to give advice, to lecture, to announce, and to give opinion. These micro functions are framed in true values, facts, and historical traces. Further action is also facilitated by the level of acceptance or understanding among the congregations. The acceptance is proved by four elements such as language use, context, point of discussion, and attitude. Fortunately these four elements show the positive respond by the congregations.
