ABSTRACT
The occurrence of fruit flies on three host plants and their parasitoids was registered in Itaubal do
Anastrepha obliqua (Macquart), the West Indian fruit fly, is one of the most economically important pest species in the Neotropical region. It infests an extensive range of host plants that include over 60 species. The geographic range of A. obliqua is from northern Mexico to southern Brazil and includes the Caribbean Islands. Previous molecular studies have revealed significant genetic structure among populations. We used sequences from a fragment of the mitochondrial protein-coding gene cytochrome c oxidase I to estimate structure and genetic diversity of A. obliqua populations from Brazil. We analyzed a total of 153 specimens from the Amazon Forest, Atlantic Forest, Cerrado, and Caatinga biomes. Our study revealed weak genetic structure among the A. obliqua Brazilian populations sampled. Collections from the Amazon Forest had similar haplotype diversity compared to previously reported estimates for collections from the Caribbean and both populations are also closely related to each other, thus challenging the hypothesis that A. obliqua originated in the Caribbean and then moved to other regions of the Americas. Therefore, further evidence is necessary to draw a definite conclusion about the putative center of origin for A. obliqua. Additionally, we suggest a putative historical migration from the west to the east for the A. obliqua Brazilian populations, which could explain the high genetic diversity for this fly in the Amazon Forest and low genetic diversity in the other Brazilian biomes.
The purpose of this work was to describe the population patterns of Anastrepha in three municipalities of the state of Roraima, Brazil, via faunistic analysis. Weekly collections were performed from January through December 2008, using McPhail traps containing 5% hydrolysed protein, in domestic orchards in the municipalities of Boa Vista, Bonfim and Pacaraima. We captured 301 females of Anastrepha in Boa Vista, 212 in Bonfim, and 167 in Pacaraima. Boa Vista presented the highest species richness (S = 10) and Pacaraima the lowest (S = 4). Anastrepha striata was the predominant species in Boa Vista (47.18%) and Pacaraima (65.87%), whereas A. obliqua predominated in Bonfim (46.23%). Boa Vista presented the highest Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H' = 1.19) and Margalef index (α = 1.58), and Bonfim presented the highest Pielou's evenness index (J' = 0.69). In Pacaraima the cumulative curves reached stability, confirming that the observed and expected species richness were the same. In the other two municipalities, the curves showed a moderate growth, suggesting that the sampling effort was not sufficient to produce an accurate depiction of species richness. In this study, Anastrepha zernyi is reported for the first time in Roraima.Keywords: Amazon, diversity, faunistic index, fruit flies. Fruit flies and associated parasitoids were determined in native and introduced fruit species in the state of Amapá, Brazil. Fruits were collected every 30 d, from Jan to Dec 2012, on 3 small farms in the municipalities of Mazagão, Porto Grande, and Santana. We collected 412 samples (78 species of plants belonging to 32 families and consisting of 4,554 fruits weighing 323.4 kg) and obtained 5,252 Anastrepha (Diptera: Tephritidae) puparia from 107 infested samples (20 plant species from 13 botanical families). We report here the occurrence of 11 species of Anastrepha and 5 species of parasitoids (4 Braconidae and 1 Figitidae species; both families in the order Hymenoptera). New hosts for Anastrepha distincta Greene, Anastrepha leptozona Hendel, Anastrepha obliqua (Macquart), and Anastrepha serpentina (Wiedemann) were documented in Brazil.
RESUMO Este trabalho objetivou efetuar um levantamento de moscas-das-frutas, suas plantas hospedeiras e seus parasitóides na Ilha de Santana, Estado do Amapá, Brasil. Foram coletadas 44 amostras de frutos de 13 espécies vegetais, totalizando 4.177 frutos e 78.753 g. Os frutos foram coletados no período de janeiro a julho de 2005, sendo obtidos 608 pupários, de onde emergiram 225 moscasdas-frutas pertencentes ao gênero Anastrepha e 42 parasitóides da família Braconidae. Houve emergência de moscas-das-frutas somente de amostras de taperebá (Spondias mombin L.), goiaba (Psidium guajava L.) e abiu (Pouteria caimito Radlk.). As espécies registradas foram A. obliqua Macquart, A. striata Schiner e A. leptozona Hendel. Parasitóides de 3 espécies emergiram de amostras de taperebá e goiaba: Doryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti), Opius sp. e Asobara anatrephae(Muesebeck).
