Abstract Cepal, Furtado, Kowarick and the labour market debateDuring the seventies, authors such as Lúcio Kowarick helped reallocate the theme of marginality in Latin America to the center of a wider search for new social and political conceptions regarding the issue, which is fundamental to thinkers of the Economic Commission for Latin America (CEPAL) as well as to Celso Furtado and José Nun. This article aims to delineate this historical moment and discuss its relevance in modern global capitalism.
