The hydatid cyst is a worldwide anthropozoonosis, which constitutes a health issue in Northern Africa. It may involve any organ, but it mostly affects the liver. This often asymptomatic disease can lead to multiple complications. Among them, spontaneous fistulization of a hepatic hydatid cyst in the stomach is exceptional even in endemic countries. We report the case of a 38-year-old female with febrile biliary colics due to a hydatid cyst of the liver fistulized in the stomach. The diagnosis was established based upon different clinical, biological and mainly radiological features. She received surgical treatment with satisfactory postoperative outcome.
Pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN) is a rare disorder associated with brain iron accumulation caused by a recessive mutation in pantothenate kinase 2 gene (PANK2). We present a case of an 11 year-old boy presenting extrapyramidal signs and developmental regression. T2-weighted images showed the classic eye of the tiger sign seen in pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration.
60-year-old diabetic patient, followed for Hodgkin's lymphoma who presented to the emergency room for diffuse abdominal pain in a febrile context. The biological examination showed hyperleucocytosis with a high CRP (320mg/l). An ultrasound was performed showing a voluminous lateralized right pelvic collection confirmed by an abdominal CT scan. The patient benefited from a percutaneous drainage objectifying a purulent liquid. The cytobacteriological examination came back in favor of E.coli. The patient was put on ceftriaxone-based antibiotic therapy. Evolution is marked by a decrease in fever with persistence of high CRP. A CT scan showed a clear regression of the collection with the appearance of intraosseous air bubbles in the iliac wings without cortical involvement, suggesting emphysematous osteomyelitis.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
