The Romanian socialist transformation of agriculture is analyzed as a sociopolitical process typical of complex society. Its specific character results from the interaction of national policy and local organization within a framework of regional power relations. National policy is transformed by community class relations, land use, and intracommunity variation as expressed in regional political economy.
