Neonatal illjection (day 5) of male CF1 mice with 50 pg of estradiol undecylate resulted in decreased body and testes weight and adrenal hypertrophy when these animals were examined at 95 days of age. The adrenal hypertrophy was associated with a n increase in adrenal total cholesterol and plasma corticosterone after maximal ACTH stimulation. Orchiectomy of estradiol-injected or oil-iqiected control males did not significantly modify their response to ACTH stimulation. It is concluded that neonatal estrogenization of male mice causes, in addition to previously reported defects in subsequent reproductive function, long-lasting changes in adrenal function.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
