This paper outlines an American Meteorological Societysponsored approach for developing a system of standard test procedures for the basic meteorological instruments. The approach involves establishing a number of working groups, under the direction of a suitable committee, composed of members from both industry and the profession. The approach is parallel to similar approaches successfully taken by other professional societies faced with similar problems.
