Perhaps there is no better time to reflect on the new creation than now, amid the Covid-19 pandemic. All aspects of human life are being impacted by the pandemic, not to mention the danger of death that it generates. This critical situation brings out legitimate questions to the current state of the world (or creation): whether it is perishing, being abandoned by God, or whether God is punishing the world into destruction due to its abundance of sin. Attempting to answer those questions, the author will argue alongside Kuyper and Bavinck that God would never abandon nor destroy his creation. Even though corrupted by sin, God has no intention to destroy the creation; instead, he intends to restore it according to his original plan. God’s intention is not just to redeem the elect but to redeem the whole creation, and that complete redemption will find its fulfillment in the new creation. Such a reflection would encourage the Christian proclamation that God’s salvation extends to all creation.
Abraham Kuyper was arguably a Christian who had brought the implications of the Christian faith to the public sphere in a remarkable way. For Kuyper, the Christian faith had equally emphasized the importance of transformation of the heart and transformation of the society. Using a historical theology approach, this article attempts to present a sketch of Kuyper’s thought on the public implications of the Christian faith, which includes his concept of sphere sovereignty, visible organic church, and common grace. By elaborating on those three Kuyperian concepts, this article seeks to provide an introduction to Kuyper studies and to increase the reception of Kuyper’s theology in Indonesia.
Churches in Indonesia have been conducting online worship for more than a year (2020)(2021). Research done by Indonesia Preaching Ministry has shown that only around 20% of the church members faithfully follow the worship service from beginning to end. Christian attitude while attending online worship is also problematic. Some Christians are cooking, and others are lying on their bed while attending online worship. Another problem is the dressing code for Christians who attend online worship. How should Christians dress themselves during online worship would be the research question of this article. This article uses exegetical theology as a research method. And the main argument of this paper is that, while the Bible sufficiently attends to the dressing code of the people of
Transformation is the key to the growth of the church and mission. Transformation is a positive change toward Christ that marks believers’ life, as indicated by Paul’s exhortation in Romans 12:2. The church refers to the people who believe in Christ so they are renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit. That transformation or renewal empowers the church to function as the light of the world, as a missional community through the power of the Holy Spirit. This article seeks to present the strong correlation between the spiritual transformation of the church by the power of the Holy Spirit with her function as a missional community. This article elaborates the meaning of transformation in the New Testament, the meaning of transformation from the perspective of systematic theology, and the strong correlation between spiritual transformation and the function of the church as a missional community. Natural theology is an underdeveloped theological theme in the recent Indonesian theological scholarship. That fact is unfortunate considering the significance of the topic to the context of religious pluralism in Indonesia. Natural theology is interdisciplinary and interreligious in nature; thus, it might open scholarly discussion for scholars from many disciplines with diverse religious backgrounds. Using a systematic theology approach, this articleargues that developing natural theology could keep balance for Christian emphasis on general and special revelation that might lead toward the enrichment of the Christian faith.
