Awareness of ovarian cancer symptoms and risk factors among women in the general population is low. Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed at late stages, when cure is difficult; consequently, heightening women's awareness of risk factors and symptoms might help to reduce delays in diagnosis. Nurses should provide women with specific information on symptoms and risk factors in educating them on ovarian cancer.
Whitehead’s metaphysical conception of life in Process and Reality is elucidated. The article is about neither biology nor psychology, but about how Whitehead’s view of interstitial life might account for these scientific disciplines’ range of phenomena. Whitehead’s view of the universe as always novel but rarely original will be clarified, as will the role of eternal objects.
Tom Sine, in wh at may be the bes t of his many books, d escribes a wo rld that is in creasingly driven by a secu la ris t econo mic globalization (McWorld) that is in direct contrad iction to king do m values (Mus tard Seed) . This secularist wo rld, he believes, is not cau sed by a conspiracy of the Right or of the Left but rath er by the natural outwo rki ng of the Enlig htenme nt and moderni ty.The secularist global vision anticipates that free enterprise and free trad e will yield a rising econo mic tide that will elevate the state of million s of peopl e wh o now live in po verty.Sine does his best to acknowl ed ge that McWorld is not all bad. Ind eed he grants, albeit grudgingly, thatthe adoption of free ente rprise has brou ght economic benefit to nations heretofore imped ed by non cap italist sys tems . No ne theless, he seems to recover qu ickly from notions of progr ess to express gre at alarm th at Mc Wo rld h as largely en ha nced th e hold ings of the rich while accelerati ng the miser y of th e po or . Mo reover, he is con cerned that the fundamenta l values of McWorld make it increasingly difficult for Christians to live out their faith ami d a spiritua lly debilitating materialism .Those curious about the futu re and the impact of change-w hich should be all of us-will find this book especially helpful on tw o accounts. First, Sine helps us to see the de velopment s of the pr esent and future as part of a sys tem, as opposed to isolated events.Sine makes a convi ncing and some times frightening case that wh at we are witnessing is a part of a wave of sys temic change. Second, he gives us specificillustrations of wha t Mustard Seed peopl e are do ing to counteract the impa ct of the pr evailing culture.Though Sine is committed to a balance between hop e and despair, I confess that I fe lt m ore d espair h ere th an h op e. Nevertheless, the explosion of the overseas church and th e expa ns ive growth of eva ngelica l ch u rches, p a r ticularl y Pentecostal chur ches in Ame rica, lead me to see the future with a measure of hope not entirely pr esent in this good book.
