Evangelization is the primary purpose of Catholic education. However,due to the depreciation of moral values brought about by secularismand globalization, the identity and mission of Catholic schools arecompromised. Thus, this paper primarily intended to assess the levelof quality of Catholic education in a Diocesan School in accordance tothe five domains of the Philippine Catholic Schools Standards (PCSS). Aquantitative study was used through a standardized survey questionnaireto gather data from 337 respondents―administrators, teachers,non-teaching personnel, students, and parents of the school. Usingdescriptive and inferential data analyses, the results revealed that theDiocesan school adheres to the quality standards for Catholic educationbut needs to continuously improve to meet the highest possiblestandards. Of the five (5) domains, learning environment was rated highby respondents while leadership and governance ranked low. Moreover,the study showed that parents have significantly higher assessmentcompared to other respondents in terms of assessing the quality Catholiceducation of the institute. The findings further affirmed the importantrole that administrators play in the effective management of school toachieve quality Catholic education and to ensure operational vitality inresponding to its evangelical mission. Hence, the active involvement ofthe members of the school community to this effect.
The paper aimed to assess the respondents’ level of teaching standardscompetence using the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers(PPST) and their performance using the school’s Teacher PerformanceEvaluation, respectively. Likewise, it purported to determine thesignificant difference in the level of teaching standards competenceand performance of teachers when teachers were grouped according tosex, marital status, educational attainment, and status of employment.The respondents were the whole population of the basic educationdepartment of a diocesan school in Antique composed of 33 teachers.Using a descriptive-comparative and correlational research design, thestandardized questionnaires on teaching standards competence usingPPST and teaching performance using teacher performance evaluationof the diocesan school were utilized to gather the data. Descriptive andinferential analyses using the mean, Mann Whitney U and IndependentSamples t-test, and the Pearson Product Moment of Correlation wereutilized to analyze the data. The findings revealed that the level of teachingstandards competence and performance of basic education teachersas assessed by the principals and teachers themselves were proficientand satisfactory, respectively. Moreover, the findings further showedno significant difference in both the teaching standards competenceand performance when the teachers were grouped according to sex,educational attainment, marital status, and status of employment.However, the overall findings revealed that there is a significantrelationship between the level of teaching standards competence andperformance.
Coronavirus Disease 2019 forced educational sectors worldwide to implement various distance learning modalities. In the Philippines, printed modular distance learning modality was implemented to continue delivering quality and relevant education amid the pandemic. Thus, this study assessed the quality and implementation of PMDL in public elementary schools. Likewise, this study ranked the challenges encountered by the teachers in the quality and implementation of PMDL. Using descriptive and inferential analyses, the results revealed that both quality and implementation of PMDL were consistently excellent, indicating the adherence of the modality to the national standards set by the Department of Education. However, significantly lower quality of PMDL among small and medium schools and the encountered challenges of teachers on assessments, activities, outputs, parents' incapacity, inconsistent participation, and compliance established the need for instructional supervision.
