Pig production is a key livelihood sector and a source of economic and social beneficiaries, which has many interest and interlinked actors. The inventory which includes all resources and the roles played by actors is utmost important in pig farming system. Some stakeholders are interlinked in function, forming a complex system with multi-disciplinary actors. This research aims to distinctively map and provide clear involvement of actors or stakeholders in relation to their contribution towards pig business. As much as 32 institutions were interviewed based on the roles and resources of individuals working inside the organizations formally and informally. The parameters collected inlude the structure, status of law, and types of organization. As well as stakeholders' role, effect, importance, threat, and turn-back impact. The data obtained include resources sharing, duration, continuity, power, and interventions. Those related to intervention were policy, finance, space, time, access, satisfaction, knowledge, skills, threats, and power. In terms of innovation, the data collected include power, finance, space, time, access, satisfaction, knowledge, skills, threats, and power. And were stored in Microsoft excel worksheet and exported to Social Network Visualizer software version 2.5. The key and strategic stakeholder in pig business beneficiary were identified and determined based on power and interest. The following were identified in the first rank: crop farmers, private credit business, village officer, and local community. In the second rank, the factors identified include government (local and national), student community services, and security.
Abstract:Cattle have been long time introduced in Papua. However adaptation to raise cattle has been unpredictable. An explorative field study using participatory analysis was done in fifteen villages to comprehensively understand the dynamic of cattle performances. Cattle farming system was classified in to three sizes, i.e. small-medium-and large systems. Analyses of data were using Anova and Kruskal-Wallis. The finding of this research was that the three cattle farming sizes were similar in many components of good agricultural practices (p>0.05). No wide gap was found in line with farmers, cattle and economical performances. Tropical livestock unit of West New Guinea was low and has possibility to be increased due to agribusiness potential. Lack of good agricultural practices should be narrowed down by better services of government and other related stakeholders.
ABSTRAKPenelitian bertujuan untuk mengkaji tentang peran wanita dan pria peternakan babi skala keluarga di etnis Arfak, Papua Barat. Penelitian dengan metode deskriptif dilaksanakan di Manokwari pada tiga kawasan agroekologi, pesisir, dataran rendah dan dataran tinggi. Penelitian melibatkan 22 orang kepala rumah tangga peternak berturut-turut sebanyak 10 orang, 7 orang dan 5 orang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat produksi peternakan babi dari wanita Papua masih rendah dalam siklus agribisnis ternak babi dari tahapan pra produksi, namun meningkat perannya pada tahapan produksi sampai pasca-produksi. Peternak laki-laki masih dominan memiliki ternak namun pengambilan keputusan sudah dilakukan secara musyawarah dan demokratis. Tingkat pendapatan peternakan babi yang dipelihara oleh wanita dan pria berkisar dari Rp 2.000.000,00 sampai Rp 6.000.000,00.Kata kunci: gender, agro-ekologi peternakan, pra-produksi, produksi, pasca produksi, Arfak. <p><span>Pigs are kept both in urban and rural areas. This research identified the performance differences <span>between urban and rural farming systems. The study was conducted in Manokwari regency and involved <span>six districts, i.e. Nothern Manokwari district, Eastern Manokari District, Western Manokwari district,<br /><span>Warmare district, Prafi district and Masni district. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 18.0, an <span>independent-samples T test was run to compare urban and rural pig farming systems. The research found <span>that there were differences of ages and feeding hours (P<0.05) between those two farming systems. There<br /><span>were no differences in household members, experience, average pig owned, working hours, selling period, <span>litter size and number of farrowing. There are nine point of pig farming improvement that should be done to <span>sustain pig farming systems in Manokwari Papua. Education may be improved by provide informal and <span>skillful education. Pig ownership should be increased. Working hours must be increased. Pig keeping in the <span>pens should be done by farmers. Managing pigs with additional time is important so that pigs will be <span>maintained well.
