Introduction: Th17 and Treg cells have important roles in the development and progression of the allergic diseases, such as asthma. Several studies reported that Nigella sativa could improve chronic airway inflammation, and inhibit airway remodeling by regulating the immune system. To examine the effect of Nigella sativa supplementation on Th17/ Treg cells, and asthma control test score in asthmatic children.
Vitamin D is reported to affect immune system and prevent autoimmunity. Some studies show that low vitamin D levels in patients with type 1 diabetes are associated with glycemic control and inflammatory status. The study was cross sectional design with subjects T1DM patients aged 1-18 years, and healthy subjects with similar age. Plasma levels of vitamin D (25(OH)D3) was measured using ELISA. Glycemic control measured by hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). Inflammatory status measured by examination of IL-10 using ELISA method. Comparison of vitamin D levels, HbA1c levels and IL-10 levels were analyzed by independent samples t-test. The relationship between vitamin D levels, HbA1c, and IL-10 were analyzed by Pearson's correlation. Our subjects were 20 T1DM patients and 20 healthy controls. Our study showed that vitamin D (25(OH)D3) levels was significantly lower than in healthy controls (20.82±5.53 ng/ml vs 33.14±2.17 ng/ml; p=0.000), HbA1c levels was significantly higher than in healthy controls (10.08±5.02% vs 5.02±0.18%; p=0.000), IL-10 levels was significantly lower than in healthy controls (16.50±4.57 ng/ml vs 73.52±7.11 ng/ml; p=0.000). Vitamin D levels were correlated with HbA1c (p= 0.000; r=-0.871), correlated with IL-10 (p= 0.000; r= 0.853). HbA1c levels were correlated with IL-10 levels (p= 0.000; r=-0.878). Low vitamin D levels are common in T1DM patients. There were significant differences in vitamin D levels, IL-10, and HbA1c among T1DM patients compared to normal subjects. Vitamin D levels were associated with HbA1c levels and IL-10 levels in T1DM.
BACKGROUND: Vitamin D plays essential role in the regulation of inflammation, such as in pathogenesis of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). Vitamin D deficiency has been reported among JIA patients, but there were conflicting results regarding the correlation with disease activity. This study aimed to assess vitamin D serum level and its correlation with C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and disease activity in JIA patients.METHODS: Children who were diagnosed with JIA according to International League of Associations for Rheumatology (ILAR) criterias were enrolled as JIA group subjects, while age and sex-matched healthy children were enrolled as the control group subjects. Vitamin D and CRP serum level were measured. Disease activity of JIA patients was calculated by Juvenile Arthritis Disease ActivityScore-27 (JADAS-27).RESULTS: Vitamin D serum level was lower in the JIA group compared to the healthy control group (p=0.000). Among 26 JIA patients, 61.5% were deficient, 30.8% were insufficient, and 7.7% had normal vitamin D. No significant different in CRP level between vitamin D group (p=0.441), but there was significant different in JADAS-27 (p=0.001). The mean of CRP and JADAS-27 were found highest in vitamin D deficiency group. Vitamin D serum level was negatively correlate with CRP (p=0.021, r=-0.452) and JADAS-27 (p=0.001 r=-0.595).CONCLUSION: Low level of vitamin D in JIA patients was inversely related to higher CRP and disease activity,suggesting that vitamin D supplementation could be havepotential role in JIA treatment.KEYWORDS: vitamin D, CRP, disease activity,JADAS-27, JIA
Background Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways characterized by involvement of a variety of inflammatory cells. Asthma is associated with imbalances between Th1/Th2 cells and their characteristic cytokine profiles. Nigella sativa is a plant that possesses immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties.
Kurangnya pengetahuan masyarakat tentang COVID-19, lupus, reumatik, dan alergi mempengaruhi keberhasilan terapi, penurunan angka kejadian, dan pencegahan kekambuhan. Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat adalah membangun desa-desa binaan tanggap COVID-19, lupus, reumatik, dan alergi di Malang oleh Tim Kelompok Kajian Lupus, Autoimun, Reumatik, dan Alergi (LAURA) Universitas Brawijaya. Warga desa binaan diberikan penyuluhan berupa seminar awam dan pelatihan tentang pertolongan awal pada penyakit COVID-19, lupus, reumatik, dan alergi, kemudian diminta mengisi kuesioner posttest untuk mengukur pemahaman. Desa-desa binaan diberikan thermo-gun dan wastafel untuk menerapkan protokol kesehatan. Satu bulan kemudian dievaluasi adanya kejadian COVID-19, lupus, reumatik, dan alergi di desa binaan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan rata-rata warga desa binaan memahami 78,3% materi yang diberikan dan menerapkan protokol kesehatan sesuai yang diajarkan saat penyuluhan. Dilaporkan tidak ada kejadian COVID-19 serta kekambuhan lupus, reumatik, dan alergi dalam satu bulan terakhir kegiatan. Kesimpulan: pembangunan desa-desa binaan di Malang meningkatkan tanggap warga terhadap COVID-19, lupus, reumatik, dan alergi.
