Orange-spotted grouper is one of the coral reef fish has the economic value and exploited by local fisherman. Information about the size structure and sex ratio are urgent to formulate a policy for sustainability. This research aims to analyze the size structure and sex ratio of the orange-spotted grouper in Kwandang Bay. The research was conducted from December 2016 to November 2017. Sampling is carried out twice a month for one year. The total sample of orange-spotted grouper used for the analysis of the sex ratio was 149 individuals. Sample of orange-spotted grouper collected from fish landed and middlemen (grouper traders) at the Kwandang Fishing Port. Data analysis applying chi-square. The results show that males bigger than females. The sex ratio of orange-spotted grouper is 87.25 % female, 7.38 % male, and 5.37 % hermaphrodites. Orange-spotted grouper dominated by females and undergoes a gonad differentiation to male (protogynous hermaphrodite). It is concluded that The size of the male orange-spotted grouper is larger than that of the female grouper. The caught orange-spotted grouper is dominated by the female phase and undergoes a differentiation of the gonad from female to male (protogynous hermaphrodite)
Among the many problems, one of the obstacles to farming is the weak strategy to make up for the highest profit. The purpose of this study is to examine the direction of the development of agribusiness of dragon fruit in the integrated yard of a tourism village. This research was carried out in Banuroja Village, Randangan District, Gorontalo, from March to June 2019. This research was designed using a survey approach. The number of respondents are 58 people. The data were analyzed using the SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat) methods. The analysis shows that SWOT awareness is in quadrant III (change strategy). The recommended strategy priorities consist of; (a) the development of dragon fruit-based agro-tourism through strengthening multicultural farmers in the promotion of rural tourism, (b) forming farmer groups in the integration of agricultural tourism management as an effort to strengthen institutions, and (c) developing super red dragon fruit in an effort to expand its development because it is much sought after by consumers.
Land use regardless of conservation treatments can cause lasting damage to cultivated land. This has resulted in land degradation and serious problems for community management of critical land. The aim of this research is to actualize local community participation in critical land management in Gorontalo. This study used a literature review and observational approach by conducting discussions with the rehabilitation community. Data analysis used descriptive qualitative, by conducting data acquisition including information gathering, reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that: (a) photographing the sustainability of critical land rehabilitation can be initiated by providing a demonstration plot of sample gardens managed using a participatory method. This increases the responsibility and authority of local communities. Types of plants are selected based on community needs in fulfilling their daily needs and associated with traditional ceremonies; (b) brainstorming on community participation shows its attention to planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. In general, the community needs continuous assistance, socialization, and additional rehabilitation funds. The management process prioritizes the “Huyula” tradition, by mobilizing community leaders and the cooperation of various stakeholders in its actualization; and (c) the failure of the project-based rehabilitation idea has resulted in the reality of stagnation and weakening of local community authority. Participation maneuvers decreased dramatically with the restraint of top-down patterns. Therefore, the transformation is carried out by doing integrated management between various government and private sectors. More importantly, the community should be managed in the framework of empowerment, because the nature, uniqueness and characteristics of the community are different, which give rise to various social institutions. In Gorontalo, the huyula spirit and customary series can be a motivator in managing critical land rehabilitation and greening the environment. Therefore, this idea needs to be supported and the formation of academic papers and village regulations that can be binding in the implementation of rehabilitation.
Nowadays, land management requires a paradigm recondition towards wise behavior in utilizing natural resources. An alternative that can be consistently applied to support this is the application of agroforestry patterns. The purpose of this service is to provide counseling, training, and assistance to the community in agroforestry development. This activity was carried out in Dulamayo Barat Village, Telaga District, Gorontalo Regency. The method used is focused discussion and group training. The procedural activities are divided into three stages, namely planning (observation and socialization), implementation (counseling, training, and fostering productive activities), and evaluation stages (reviewing the participation of agroforestry developing communities). The results obtained in this service activity are: (a) observation activities describing the existence of forest destruction, monoculture patterns, cultivation without land cover, and low socio-economic aspects; (b) socialization is carried out to the village government to establish cooperation and request support in community empowerment; (c) extension is carried out by providing material on the prospects for agroforestry development; (d) the training content provides reinforcement for the community to choose a combination pattern of agroforestry and top grafting; and (e) the evaluation phase shows that 60% of the community participated in planning-implementation, and 47% participated in the evaluation of the agroforestry program.
