Promoting the reform of teacher professional development (TPD) in the digital era using web-based learning (online and blended learning) appears to be a great innovation in improving teachers skills using technology through computers and Internet networks. Some research revealed that online learn-ing on TPD influences on improving teacher performance; however, the effect had no better results compared to traditional learning. Hence, this study evaluating the policy by examining the effects of web-based learning model, i.e., online and blended learning, and face to face approach on the scores achieved in teacher training. The study adopted the quasi-experimental design with pre-post non-equivalent group design of the intact teacher training program. The participants were 427,189 teachers covering all school levels in Indonesia. Findings suggest that the web-based learning model is more effective in teacher achievement than the f2f, while the female tends to be better than male. Hence, digital constraint is not an obstacle for the teacher in the web-based model. Interestingly, blended learning that emerged as a new trend in e-learning proved to be quite promising. These findings provide considerations for the development of a policy for an appropriate TPD model for teachers at different levels.
An identity negotiation process, initiated after the peace agreement was reached, is currently underway in Aceh. This can be seen, for example, in the activities of the women joined in the Inong Balee troop, the women's wing of the Free Aceh Movement (Gerakan Aceh Merdeka, GAM) formed in the late 1990s. Their participation as women combatants is inseparable from the strong ethno-nationalistic identity and ethno-political struggle that sought Aceh's independence. Today, more than twelve years after peace was reached in Aceh, the Acehnese ethno-political identity has experienced a transformation. Although it has not entirely disappeared, their activities have been framed as part of Indonesian nationalism. This finding emphasizes that nation is not fixed, but transformable and negotiable. The once ethno-political identity has become a social national identity. This paper attempts to understand how former woman members of GAM through a qualitative narrative. This paper attempts to answer why this has happened and how former combatants have negotiated their identities. Is there still a sense of Acehnese nationalism, as they fought for, and how has this intersected with their Indonesian nationalism since they became ordinary citizens?
This study analyzes how the leadership model encourages public service innovation in Indonesia. So far, experts have reviewed the leadership and innovation as limited to the leader capacities, leadership styles and leader determinants towards innovation. However, the leadership model of the innovation process has not been systematically identified and has not been seen in detail when and how the model of the leadership has relations with the innovation process. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to identify and explore a successful leadership model delivering innovation so that innovation can be applied in public organizations. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. This research took an example of innovation cases in the provincial Government, a special region of Yogyakarta. The location was chosen based on the bureaucracy leadership level of Sub-district, District, and province. The results stated that types of innovation in five public organizations with different processes present a different leadership model. It formed important findings based on the background of three, namely 1) collaborative efforts among stakeholders; 2) Single Fighter: Manage yourself; and 3) Top-down: interest bases. Leader models tend to differ on the bureaucratic leadership level of provincial, district level, and sub-district levels.
This research studies the intention and endeavour of Christian-based organizations, namely the Family Research Council and Family Policy Alliance in disseminating the notion of sexuality in American society. This research utilizes a narrative analysis strategy and employs the following steps: 1) close reading the collected documents; 2) categorizing the recurring patterns of narratives using sociological perspective and cultural reproduction theory; 3) drawing a conclusion on the intention and efforts of Family Research Council and Family Policy Alliance in spreading the knowledge of sexuality. Using the narratives of aspirations and tensions which surrounds sexuality, this study shows that Family Research Council and Family Policy Alliance uphold Christian values as the organization's foundation and attempt to secure those principles in the ‘sex-saturated society.’ To accomplish the mission, Family Research Council and Family Policy Alliance promote abstinence-only education and oppose comprehensive sex education, arguing that comprehensive sex education holds liberal values that threaten the sanctity of the heterosexual relationship. This research demonstrates that Family Research Council and Family Policy Alliance, as Christian-based organizations, strive to preserve the conservative values that have been passed down from generation to generation.
