We retrospectively reviewed the charts of 50 consecutively referred adult patients with horizontal ocular misalignment only. We wanted to evaluate anesthesia by conscious sedation as an alternative to general anesthesia for the primary surgical stage of adjustable suture repair. Parameters regarding patient acceptance, strabismus correction, and health-care facility utilization were studied. Conscious sedation is a safe and effective alternative to general anesthesia for adjustable suture repair of horizontal misalignment in adult patients.
