Introduction: Deforming arthrosis, or osteoarthritis, is the most common rheumatic disease that involves the musculoskeletal system. The purpose of this research is to perform a retrospective review of the quality of life of patients with knee arthrosis, who underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) no less than five years ago, to evaluate, based on the Knee Society Scoring System, the efficacy of a modified measured resection technique, and to investigate factors that affect the outcomes. Material and methods: The research sample consisted of 44 patients who had severe osteoarthrosis, Kellgren-Lawrence grade III and grade IV. Results: The post-operative complications occurred in seven knee joints. Among them there were two cases of infection, two cases of periprosthesis fracture, and two cases of aseptic instability, each pair accounting for 4.3%, and one case of femoropatellar pain (2.3%). The remaining 38 knee joints (84.8%) were free of complications. Conclusions: Knee arthrosis is a serious health problem, given the significant rate of disability among patients and the significant reduction in the quality of life. Patients often seek medical help at the later stages of the disease, when pain is strong and knee function is significantly reduced. The approach to rehabilitation procedures and, in some cases, to lifestyle improvement should be more responsible.
BackgroundThe purpose of this research is to evaluate the results of arthroscopic suture fixation with fiber wires used as treatment for ACL avulsion fracture, and to determine how effective such a technique is when it comes to restoring of knee function.Materials and methodsThis prospective study involves 28 patients, who underwent arthroscopic fixation of displaced ACL avulsion fractures at Saint Paul Hospital (Hanoi) from January 2014 to March 2018.ResultsThe first three weeks were not marked with any abnormalities associated with post-operative sutures and hematomas, infectious complications were not detected either. Post-operative displacement of fracture fragments did not take place among the patients involved in the study. At the 3-month follow-up, the average IKDC score was 90.7 (range: 76–100), and the average Lysholm score was 93.6 (range 82–100). The percentage of excellent scores was 42.9% (12 patients), good scores accounted for 50% (14 patients), while fair/poor scores accounted for 3.6% each (1 patient on each score). The percentage of excellent/good scores was 92.9% in total.ConclusionThis study shows that ACL avulsion fracture can be treated effectively by arthroscopic suture fixation with fiber wires. In fact, this technique may restore knee function and stability.
We report the case of a female patient, 13 years old, with an osteoid osteoma of the left talar neck. The tumor was arthroscopically removed. Pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of osteoid osteoma. Preoperative, the patient had severe pain in the ankle joint, walked lame, and was unresponsive to pain relief medicines, even Aspirin. Post-operative, there was immediate and complete pain relief and the patient remains asymptomatic after 06 weeks.
