Abstract:This article has the main goal of analyzing the potential of mobility management strategies as a solution to reducing environmental, economic and social impacts, resulting from the increasing motorization rates, particularly the academic community. At the same time, it aims to alert to the necessary changes in the mobility patterns supported by sustainable mobility systems. The results of this investigation are based on the activities developed within the European project TAT (Students Today, Citizens Tomorrow) in Campus 2 of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. That project resulted in the implementation of a set of mobility management measures, in close collaboration with key local stakeholders, which allowed, in particular the promotion of public transport, the use of soft modes and encouraging carpooling practice. To quantify the acceptance and impact of these measures surveys were made to academic population. The data collection occurred in two phases: the first for the characterization of mobility patterns and willingness to change habits of mobility that occurred in the 2007/2008 class period, and the second phase to assess the impact of each measure on the changes in attitude and mobility behavior throughout the years 2009/2010.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
