Our study demonstrates that insufflation with either CO2 or He causes significant changes of intra- and extracellular parameters regulating essential cell functions such as oxidative phosphorylation to produce ATP, cell proliferation, or onset of apoptosis.
The incidence of gas embolism during laparoscopy and accidental vessel injury seems to be very low. With the exception of acidosis and an increase of PETCO2 in the CO2 group, there were no differences in cardiopulmonary function between insufflation of CO2 and helium.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
