Oral administration of a solution of aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) (60 g/100 mL) at a dosage of 80 mg/kg/day to dogs did not cause erosions or ulceration in the proximal gut. There was no biochemical or hi tological evidence of nephrotoxicity although high peak serum concentrations of the drug were obtained. High doses of 5-ASA may be used in the proximal intestine without gastroduodenal damage.
