Nostalgia is generally defined as a longing for the past, and from a marketing perspective it can be described as an emotion that drives the purchase behaviors of consumers. Companies have started to make use of the element of nostalgia in their marketing strategies more frequently in order to be more successful than their competitors in today's intensely competitive market. The aim of the study is to examine the effect of nostalgia proneness on ad-evoked nostalgia, attitude and purchase intention as well as to evaluate it with regard to the purchase decision making process of the consumer. The structural equation model was used for testing the developed hypothesis with a sample group comprised of 381 consumers. The study puts forth that sense of nostalgia has a strong effect on ad-evoked nostalgia, attitude and purchase intention. The findings of the study point out to the marketers that nostalgic signs in advertisements may have positive effects on the brand attitude and the purchase intention of the targeted groups.
The purpose of this research is to determine the effects of materialism and hedonic shopping value on impulse buying behavior and the effect of materialism on hedonic shopping value. The study sample was comprised of students selected via convenience sampling method at one state university in the Marmara Region of Turkey. The analysis of the data acquired by face-to-face questionnaire method from a total of 464 university students was performed by factor analysis. Structural equation modeling was used to assess the effects of materialism and hedonic shopping value on impulse buying behavior and the effect of materialism on hedonic shopping value. The findings showed that the success dimension of materialism has a positive effect on all dimensions of hedonic shopping value and that the success and centrality dimensions of materialism have a positive effect on impulse buying behavior. Also, it was observed that the happiness dimension of materialism has a negative effect on impulse buying behavior and all dimensions of hedonic shopping value. Furthermore, it was seen that the social interaction and praise from others dimensions of hedonic shopping value have a negative effect on impulse buying behavior. These findings can help theorist and marketers better understand young people's impulse buying behaviors.
The aim of this chapter was to examine the effect of individual factors (price consciousness, quality consciousness, value consciousness, frugality, and risk aversion) and consumer perceptions regarding store characteristics on the attitude and purchase intention towards private label products. The data acquired from consumers shopping from two supermarkets providing private label products in the province of Yalova in Turkey via face-to-face questionnaire method were tested by way of structural equation modeling. It was observed as a result of the analysis that quality consciousness, value consciousness, price image, and product variety image have an effect on the attitude towards private label products. It was also determined that the attitude towards private label products has an effect on purchase intention and that the private label product purchase intention is effective on actual purchasing. Based on the aforementioned findings, strategies were taken into consideration that should be adopted by private label product retailers in their stores.
