Newcastle Disease (ND) is a common avian disease that attacks native chickens by causing respiratory problems, thereby leading to a high mortality rate of about 60% per year and economic losses in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the prevalence of ND in Kampung Unggul Balitbangtan (KUB) and Sentul Terseleksi (SenSi) chickens which was conducted from March to June 2021, on their cages at the Ungaran Research and Assessment Installation for Agricultural Technology. The total number of 20 serum KUB and SenSi chicken samples were collected, with 25% KUb A cages, 50% KUB B cages, and 25% SenSi cages. Each chicken’s serum was analyzed for inhibition of hemagglutination (HI) to determine antibody titers against ND. The average antibody titer is expressed as a log2 value. The HI test results indicated that the KUB A cage, KUB B cage, and SenSi cage all contained positive ND antibodies. In the KUB A, KUB B, and the SenSi cages, the average ND antibody titer are 2 log 2, 0.8 log 2, and 2 log 2 respectively. In conclusion, the prevalence of ND antibodies is 100% in KUB and SenSi hens. The ND infection was not described in all chicken cages because the prior vaccine provided a limited level of protection.
One of the roles and functions of agricultural extension centers (AEC) is providing and disseminating technological information. The IAARD provides assistance kampung unggul Balitbangtan (KUB) chicken that has higher egg productivity. This paper was made to observe the performance of KUB chickens at Agriculture Extension Center of Semarang Regency which were received by Bergas, Ungaran Timur and Ungaran Barat District. The observations are made in Oktober-Desember 2021. KUB Chicken ages are 2-12 weeks with each samples were 20 birds. The variables observes consist of body weight (g), body weight gain (g), and mortality (%). The results obtained for the average body weight at 12 weeks were 651,40 g/bird; 766,85 g/bird and 1.230,10 g/bird for AEC Bergas, Ungaran Timur and Ungaran Barat respectively. The body weight gain were 19,70 g/bird/day; 24,56 g/bird/ day and 35,64 g/bird/day for AEC Ungaran Timur, Bergas and Ungaran Barat respectively. Mortality was highest at AEC Bergas at 15% while Ungaran Timur at 7% and Ungaran Barat at 5% respectively. It can be concluded that the KUB chicken in agricultural extension centers of Ungaran Barat District shows good performance in terms of body weight, body weight gain and low mortality rate due to good management.
The increase in rice production in Central Java is mainly in increasing productivity rather than increasing the planted area. New superior varieties of rice (VUB) are one of the technological innovation breakthroughs that can increase rice productivity and farmers' income. Disease control strategies through an epidemiological control approach for bacterial leaf blight and brown plant hoppers also need to be disseminated to extension workers through technical meetings. Technical meeting is a meeting forum between researchers/instructors of IAARD and technology users (instructors in the field and agricultural officers) in order to communicate/socialize technology and innovations to be used as agricultural extension materials. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the technical meeting method in increasing the knowledge, perceptions and responses of extension officers about technology to increase rice productivity. The study was carried out using a true experiment approach by evaluating pre-test and post-test surveys. The technical meeting was held on May 25, 2021 at AIAT Central Java Jl. Soekarno Hatta KM 26 No 10 Semarang Regency with 40 participants. Sampling was using purposive sampling method as many as 40 respondents. Data of knowledge improvement were analysed by calculating the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test followed by the paired t-test. Meanwhile, perception and response data were analysed by descriptive method. The knowledge improvement after obtaining the technology material increased by 14.44% and had a perception and response in the high/positive category towards the introduced technological innovation. With the increase in knowledge, perceptions and positive responses, it is hoped that extension workers can play a positive role in making the material at the technical meeting as extension material in each work area.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
