^®F mC•• suited for consumption in manufactured tobacco products immediately after curing. Depending upon the type of tobacco, method of aging, and local terminology, such tobaccos are referred to as "raw," "green," "unfermented," or "unaged." These terms refer to the presence of irritating properties, the lack of aroma, and to differences
b Mixtures of fatty acid methyl esters were fractionated by countercurrent distribution between hexane and 0.2N silver nitrate in 90% methanol. Cis and frans monoenoic esters were separated. With polyenoic esters, separation depends upon both configuration and number of carbon atoms between double bonds.
Observations by Aylward and Rao that hydrazine is a reducing agent for a number of unsaturated fatty acids were extended. The hydrazine reaction on linolenic acid was followed by periodic sampling until methyl esters prepared from the reduced acids had an iodine value of 162. These esters were shown by countercurrent distribution to consist of 26% triene, 43% diene, 26% monoene, and 5% stearate and by infrared analysis to contain notrans bonds.
Oxidation of the separated monoene and diene fractions by permanganate‐periodate mixtures and gas chromatography of the dibasic acids showed that the double bonds were in the original 9, 12, and 15 positions and that the double bonds farthest from the carboxyl were reduced at a slightly faster rate. Gas chromatography of the monoene fraction indicated three components that were identified in the order of elution from the column as 9, 12, and 15 monoenes; in the diene fraction three components were identified in the order of elution as 9,12; 9,15; and 12,15 dienes. After alkali isomerization of this diene fraction, the conjugated material was reacted with maleic anhydride; the unreacted 9,15 diene isomer was separated by distillation.
Electron paramagnetic resonance and optical spectra of Cu H ions doped into polymorphic Te02 have been investigated. Spectra were obtained for the non-Zachariasen, octahedrally coordinated amorphous form and for the tetragonal crystalline form. The spectra were interpreted in terms of a molecularorbital model of a Cu H ion in square-planar coordination to the oxygen ligands and compared to results obtained previously for amorphous and tetragonal Ge02. The properties of the dopant Cu H ions in the non-Zachariasen Te02 glass were found to be similar to those of Cu H ions in the Zachariasen Ge02 glass. The Cu H ions were more covalently bonded in the Te02 glass than in the Te02 crystal and less covalently bonded in both forms of Te02 than in the corresponding Ge02 polymorphs.
A diagnostic capable of providing time resolved measurements of plasma radiated power during disruptions and other fast transients, e.g., edge localized modes has been employed in the DIII-D tokamak. The radiation is detected with absolute extreme ultraviolet (AXUV) photodiode arrays. Thirty chords from a single port provide measurements from a full slice of the plasma at one toroidal location. The analog bandwidth is up to 1 MHz for the brightest events, i.e., disruptions. Active cooling of the diode arrays prevents damage during high temperature vessel baking. Effective responsivity values of 0.12-0.18 A / W are taken from previous work on the application of AXUV diodes in DIII-D. The total radiated energy in disruptions typically agrees with bolometer measurements within about 12%.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
