We compare the calculated and measured sensitivities of wide-band. ultrasonic transducers: optical interferometers. aircoupled capacitive transducers, electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs), and contact piezoelectric transducers. In the case of ideal (lossless) sensors we find that air-coupled, EMAT and contact piezoelectric sensors all exhibit increased sensitivities over that of optical transducas. We then describe a procedure for measuring such sensitivity l i i t s and validate the procedure by determining the sensitivity limit of a contact piezoelectric transducer.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
