The article presents the results of a scientific study on the formation of an organizational and economic mechanism for the effective management of the border regions of the Russian Federation through a more complete and comprehensive account of the tools for its development; influencing the formation of strategies for its development. To assess the socio-economic situation of border areas, it is proposed to use the coefficient of social efficiency and the coefficient of social accessibility. It was concluded that the higher these indicators, the higher the gross regional product per 1 inhabitant in the border regions, as well as the volume of foreign trade turnover per capita. The analysis carried out showed the importance of predicting the activities of border areas and identified the need to develop tools for assessing in various areas and technology for ranking actual performance indicators by growth rates.
