Hexahydrogenated cyclooctatetraene dimer 1 (mp 41.5 °C) isomerized with Lewis acid catalyst to give two isomeric ethanodiam an tañes, 4 (Cd and 5 (Cs). Compound 4 is favored thermodynamically over 5 by a factor of 13 at 28 °C. The tetrahydrogenated cyclooctatetraene dimer 2 (mp 38.5 °C) likewise isomerized into two novel heptacyclohexadecanes, (C2)-bisethanobisnordiamantane ( 6) and a formal dimer of bicyclo[2.2.2]octadiene (7) with Did symmetry. Bromides from 6 and 7 were separated and their structures determined by X-ray analyses.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
