In the present study, we found that PHL, a pepsin hydrolysate of leech with little anti-coagulatory effect, could significantly suppress TNF-α induced mRNA overexpression of endothelial dysfunction-related molecules (ET-1, iNOS, MCP-1, and IL-6). These results provide a reliable experimental basis for identifying new anti-atherosclerosis therapeutics for long term use and with minimal bleeding side effects.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
