Background. In Indonesia, highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) virus has become endemic in poultry and has caused sporadic deadly infections in human. Since 2012, we have conducted fixed-point surveillance of avian influenza viruses at a live-poultry market in East Java, Indonesia. In this study, we examined the seroprevalence of avian influenza A(H5N1) virus infection among market workers.Methods. Sera were collected from 101 workers in early 2014 and examined for antibody activity against avian A(H5N1) Eurasian lineage virus by a hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) assay.Results. By the HI assay, 84% of the sera tested positive for antibody activity against the avian virus. Further analysis revealed that the average HI titer in 2014 was 2.9-fold higher than in 2012 and that seroconversion occurred in 44% of paired sera (11 of 25) between 2012 and 2014. A medical history survey was performed in 2016; responses to questionnaires indicated that none of workers had had severe acute respiratory illness during 2013.Conclusions. This study provides evidence of a high prevalence of avian A(H5N1) virus infection in 2013 among workers at a live-poultry market. However, because no instances of hospitalizations were reported, we can conclude the virus did not manifest any clinical symptoms in workers.
Background: Appetite is a condition where a person has an urge to satisfy activities in eating. Lack of appetite in children is characterized by eating small portions, reluctant to refuse when it comes time to eat, take a long time to finish a meal, playing with the food, etc. Children are at the stage of high curiosity and very active, which mean the energy needed must be sufficient. If the energy and nutrition needs are not sufficient it might lead to a slowdown in physical and psychological growth. Purpose: The purpose of this case study is to observe whether Swedish massage and children’s massage with a combination of Temu Ireng herba (Curcuma aeruginosa Roxb.) could increase appetite in school-age children. Results: The results of massage therapy with Temu Ireng decotion can increase appetite in children based on the increasing number of calories consumed before therapy from 1,267 kcal to 2,050 kcal per day after therapy session, and an increase in body weight of 0.9 Kg after 8 weeks of therapy. Conclusion: Providing Swedish massage therapy with a combination of Temu Ireng herba (Curcuma aeruginosa Roxb.) could increase appetite in schoolage children with the result of increasing the number of daily calories intake and body weight.
Background: Until now, the COVID-19 pandemic has become a world health problem, including in Indonesia. To break the chain of transmission of the virus, the immune system and body hygiene must be maintained Objective: The purpose of this campaign is to transferred knowledge and technology to PKK group partners in Kedungsukodani Village regarding the use of eucalyptus leaves to produce natural Hand Sanitizer products and processed telang flowers into instant drinks in the form of powder that can be used daily. Method: The method used is socialization, training and mentoring Results: This activity has been carried out for one day and was attended by 30 participants, at the Kedungsukodani Village Hall in accordance with health protocols in the new normal era by paying attention to 3M. Conclusion: With the implementation of this campaign, participants can practice the knowledge that has been taught in their respective homes. It is hoped that the participants will care and help the process of handling COVID-19.
Background: The corona virus pandemic (COVID-19) is spreading rapidly in a number of countries, including Indonesia. In order to deal with the increasingly widespread COVID-19, the government has established health and safety protocols by staying at home and maintaining distance, washing hands frequently with soap with running water or using hand sanitizers and increasing the body's immune system. One way to increase the immune system is through the use of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA). Purpose: Transfer of knowledge and technology to An Nisaa 'study group partners through counseling on the use of TOGA by using appropriate technology to produce natural Hand Sanitizer products and instant herbal empon-empon in powder form which makes it easier to use daily. Methods: Methods of extension (lectures and discussions), training and mentoring using the Good Traditional Medicine Manufacturing Method (CPOTB) in producing natural Hand Sanitizer products and instant herbal medicine. Results: The expected result of this program is the use of TOGA by the community, especially partners to produce immune system-enhancing herbal products that are safe and can be stored for a long time to maintain health, especially families during the COVID 19 pandemic. Conclusion: This program increased knowledge and the skills of the An Nisaa 'Rungkut recitation group seen from the enthusiasm and ability of the participants in following and practicing the making of herbal medicine and hand sanitizers.
