Existing state-legal institutions, within the framework of which influence of the center on the economic situation of the regions is performed, are considered. Degree of freedom of the federal center in decision making concerning economic support of this or that subject of the Federation and its subordination to objective criteria is analyzed.
The main directions of the influence of federal institutions on economic development of states are examined. The experience of several federations is analyzed through case-study of Germany, USA, and Argentina. It is concluded that in states with a federal structure, means of delimiting competences between the federal center and the subjects of the Federation are key institutions of state influence on economic development.
