Abstract:The economy of the Slovak republic, as a part of the European economic area, is significantly determined by the world globalization process. one of the aspects, which globalization brings, is the social differentiation deepening between countries as well as across the particular countries. This phenomenon occurs in the Slovak republic also as a consequence of the increasing households' income differentiation. it is logical to assume that the household's members who live in the different living conditions behave differently in the commodity and service market due to different preferences. The purpose of this article is to quantify the influence of the household income differentiation on their behaviour in the food market. This market is divided into five separated food market groups according to the healthy Eating Pyramid. The share of the particular food groups' expenditures in the total household food expenditures is used as a representative of the household food purchase preferences. The results of the analysis did not confirm the assumption about the significant influence of the household income differentiation on the purchases of the particular food groups. The estimation of the Engel's expenditure functions and the food expenditures elasticities with respect to the income changes are used for quantification of the impact of the household income differentiation on the particular food groups' expenditures. The food expenditures elasticities referred to the income changes verified differences among the household behaviour in the food market. The food expenditures of the households with a higher income are less elastic regarding the income changes than the food expenditures of the households with a lower income.
Abstract:The article deals with the modelling of demand for the food group of milk and milk products and the food group of meat, meat products, eggs and fish using the Marshallian demand functions for the individual income quartils of Slovak households. The criterium for the foodstuff groups selection is their position in the healthy Eating Pyramid which is one of the recommended optimal food basket forms. We suppose that the significant income differentiation of households will manifest as different consumer behaviour in the food market. The analysis confirms this hypothesis.Key words: consumption of foodstuffs, income quartil, Marshallian demand function, demand elasticity of foodstuffs, foodstuff group of milk and milk products, foodstuff group of meat, meat products, eggs and fish Abstrakt: cieľom príspevku je kvantifikovať vplyv zmeny ceny a príjmu na spotrebu vybraných skupín potravín. Skupina mlieko a mliečne výrobky a skupina mäso, mäsové výrobky, vajcia a ryby majú rovnaký odporúčaný podiel na celkovej spotrebe potravín. Predpokladali sme, že výrazná príjmová diferenciácia domácností sa prejaví v rozdielnom správaní sa spotrebiteľov na trhu s potravinami. Analýza túto hypotézu potvrdila.Kľúčové slová: spotreba potravín, kvartil príjmu, Marshallova dopytová funkcia, elasticita dopytu po potravinách, potravinová skupina mlieko a mliečne výrobky, potravinová skupina mäso, mäsové výrobky, vajcia a ryby
Consumption and increasing level of living conditions are the main characteristics of society nowadays. Quality of life is necessarily related to living conditions of population, therefore form a basis of sustainable development. The aim of the article is to determine the economic conditions of the population in Visegrad countries (V4) based on the economic indicators of quality of life. The main data source is Eurostat for the period 2005–2017. In the paper is stated and analyzed development of eight indicators of quality of life in the field of material living conditions. They are divided into three groups: indicators on income, consumption and indicators related to the living conditions of the V4 population. The results of the analysis showed that residents of the Czech Republic have the highest quality of life, followed by Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. Position of the Czech Republic and Slovakia among the V4 countries is relatively stable over the reported period. The most significant positive change in several indicators of quality of life was recorded in case of Poland. As for the individual indicators, it was proved in case of Hungary, they had dramatic development without the statistical attributability of their development trend.
The contribution aims to identify the influence of income on Slovak household expenditures. Analyses are querying from the household income and expenditures data in the Slovak Republic during the period 2004–2018. The data source is the Statistical Office of The Slovak Republic. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis are used. The analysis of the goods and services expenditures reveals the major share of the expenditures is expended for the non-durable goods. The non-durable goods expenditures of the pensioners are 72% of their total consumption expenditures. Expenditures of employees, self-employees and other households for the non-durable goods present more than a half of their total expenditures. The share of services expenditures is also considerable. It is varying above 30% for all households kinds. The income influence on the household expenditures is analyzed using Engel’s expenditures functions which are used as the basis for the income elasticities of household expenditures. The analysis results are pointing to the fact that the less elastic on the income change is the reaction of the Slovak household expenditures on non-durable goods. A significant reaction on the income change is observed in household durable goods expenditures.
