Abstract. Production economics forms a very important part of an enormous range of economic theory. Agricultural production is no exception. When evaluating the competitiveness of the multifunctional agriculture, it is necessary to use the measure of efficiency instead of productivity. The conception of the efficiency is explained and the methods for measurement are provided. The authors discuss the methods of Stochastic Frontier Approach (SFA), Free Disposal Hull (FDH) and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) that are particularly useful for multi-criterial evaluation of multifunctional processes. Those methods assign an efficiency score to each Decision Making Unit (DMU) based on how well it transforms a given set of inputs into outputs. Most studies have only focused on application of DEA method for assesment of the efficiency of agriculture farms. There is still a need on applications for sectors. This paper provides an examination of the applicability of DEA method to agriculture sectors efficiency measurement. By applying mathematical models, which are based on the DEA, the efficiency of agriculture in each EU country was evaluated.
By using a comparison approach, this article examines the current features of domestic tourism in Lithuania. Various aspects of domestic tourism are analysed and discussed. The aim of this study is to identify current trends specific to the Lithuanian domestic tourism sector and propose potential means of development. The methods of statistical analysis, graphic representation and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) were used in the research. The analysed period was 2004 through 2014. The comparison between outbound tourism and domestic tourism consumption shows, that outbound tourists’ consumption is considerably high compared to domestic tourists’ consumption. However domestic tourism is much less sensitive to crises; it is quite stable and important segment in Lithuanian tourism industry. If to compare tourism consumption, two products show significant upward trend: Sport and other entertainment services since 2010 and Cultural services since 2011. After 2008 year recession domestic tourism sector revives, tourists expenditure reached pre-crisis level, although the increase of same-day visitors’ expenditure is slightly. In the regions of Lithuania same-day tourism opportunities are well-exploited; however, overnight tourism possibilities are not well developed. On the basis of the DEA method it can be concluded that in Telsiai county it is purposeful to improve the activity of museums and travel agents’ work, and in Alytus, Panevezys, Siauliai, Taurage, Telsiai counties it is best to improve the attractiveness/appeal of regional parks.
The efficiency is a measure of a performance of a decision making units (DMUs can be a firm, a person, an organization). The data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a datadriven non-parametric approach for measuring the efficiency of a set of DMUs. The DEA is a linear programming (LP) based technique which deals with the basic models (CCR, BCC, SBM, additive) of the efficiency evaluation. This paper presents basic solution ellipsoid method approach associated with some problems of initial basic solution and the steps of it.
The article discusses problems of mathematics teaching at Lithuanian University of Agriculture at the beginning of reform of higher education. Quite a high percentage of students lack background of mathematics and don‘t have the skills to work independently, while their parents are able to pay the full price of studies. Students’ motivation and enrolment into universities also raises many problems. In response to reported problems teaching of mathematics the additional measures of organization teaching are proposed.
