The aim of this research was to improve the students’ vocabulary using wall charts as learning media. This is a classroom action research with two cycles. The procedures of each cycle were planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subjects of this research were 31 students of Learning Group VII of SMP Negeri 2 Belitang Hilir. The data are obtained quantitatively and qualitatively, namely classroom observation, interview, test scores, and questionnaires. This research showed that the students could improve to memorize the vocabulary and its meaning with the help of wall charts. The teacher also could help them correct the spelling and pronunciation. Moreover, the students’ attitude towards the teaching-learning process improved since wall charts increased the students’ interest in learning English vocabulary. It can be seen that in cycle 1 was 67 meanwhile in cycle 2 was 81.9. The research result also showed that wall chart was a good medium for learning English vocabulary with mean value 4.52.
AbatractThe purpose of this research is to describe the factors influencing of students' interest in learning English and to describe the dominant factors that influence students' interest in learning English on the tenth grade students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Sambas in the academic year 2020/2021. The research method used is descriptive research in the form of quantitative research. This research used 31 questionnaires to collect the data. The research subject for this research are tenth grade students that consist of 40 students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Sambas in the academic year 2020/2021. The results of the research shows that the factor influencing students' interest in learning English is the external factor with the amount of percentage 70.262% with rating percentage interpretation criteria is middle. From the list of the recapitulating the percentage of each indicator, the dominant factors that influence students' interest in learning English is school factor with percentage 68.99%. Therefore, from the research there are a number of external factors such as teacher, learning facility, learning method, and also school environment that influencing students' interest in learning English. The objective of this study is to discover the effect of Personal Vocabulary Note (PVN) on the students vocabulary achievement. This form of research is a pre-experimental study. The research population on this research was the eighth-grade students that consisted of 43 students of SMP Negeri 1 Mempawah Timur. By using cluster random sampling, the sample was VIII B class, consisted of 21 students. The data on this study was gathered through a written test in form of multiple choice. The data showed that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, means that Personal Vocabulary Note (PVN) affect significantly in teaching vocabulary for the eighth-grade students in SMP Negeri 1 Mempawah Timur. The result of t-test was 12.61. It was higher than t-critical(12.61 > 2.086). Finding also showed that the score of the effect size of the treatment was 2.73 and categorized as strong effect. It can be concluded that Personal Vocabulary Note (PVN) give a strong effect on vocabulary achievement of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Mempawah Timur in Academic Year 2019/2020.
This research was conducted to develop supplementary materials to support writing on descriptive text in companion to the English textbook for Seventh Grade. This research is qualitative based, and the method adopted is by development research. The researcher used the ADDIE model as the model of development of this research. However, due to time limitations to accomplish all steps, this research only implemented three phases: analyzing, designing, and developing (ADD). This research used the semi-structured interview as the data collection technique and an interview guideline as the tool of data collection. The data of the analyzing step of this research were analyzed using the thematic analysis technique. The participant of this research was an English teacher of SMP Kemala Bhayangkari Kubu Raya. The product was developed using Ispring Quizmaker. During the process of Designing and Developing, the researcher evaluated the product of this research using the criteria of good materials by Bugler et al. (2017). In conclusion, the development of supplementary material for descriptive text writing (SEASON) as the product of this research has met the criteria of good materials.
This research aimed to identify the types of moral values and describe how these moral values are presented in the Zootopia movie, directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore. The research design was a qualitative descriptive study; the data sources are the movie itself and the movie script of Zootopia. The SPEAKING Model (setting and scene, participants, ends, act sequence, key, instrumentalities, norms, and genre) by Dell Hymes is used as a framework for assess the conversation in the movie. The research results showed that this movie contained twelve utterances classified based on the types of moral values defined by Josephson and Hanson, such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Also, the morals are analyzed more profoundly using the SPEAKING Model by Dell Hymes. The moral values described in this study have important implications for teachers and other researchers, which can encourage the use of tools in analyzing literary works and can be applied in life.
