The importance of patchouli plants to produce essential oil has established this medicinal herb as one of the Indonesia's main economic contributor. To date, Indonesia can only provide 5 varieties i.e. Sidikalang, Tapak Tuan, Lhokseumawe, Patchoulina 1 and Patchoulina 2. In order to increase national patchouli production, several efforts needs to be done by providing new superior patchouli lines. This experiment was undertaken to reveal diversity of mutant progenies derived from gamma ray irradiation in patchouli. Six SSR primers were used to determine genetic diversity on MV3 generation of the mutants. Molecular analysis revealed a moderate to high polymorphism based on tested primers, which amplified 73 bands, and resulting of 0.705 PIC value. Dendrogram analysis based on Euclidean dissimilarity showed broad diversity that ranged from 0.23 to 0.82. Phenotypic tree gave clear separation that all mutant clones were clustered into three different group, with Eucledian dissimilarity coefficient ranging from 0.02 to 0.13. This report indicates that Patchouli vegetativelypropagated mutants were able to maintain their variability continuously from their parental lines (M0). Furthermore, our findings offer comprehensive information on breeding strategies of patchouli plants, giving an opportunity to assess important traits at early generation.
Community service program (PPDM) was carried out on Tunas Muda farmer groups, Rente Rejo 1 and Rente Rejo 2. The general purpose of this activity was to provide an added value to the community of protected forest areas by utilizing patchouli from mutation breeding. To preserve the forest, efforts should be made to utilize forest land under tree stands with shade-tolerant plants. The implementation of patchouli cultivation was carried out phasing activities, namely tillage, construction of nursery buildings, procurement of cuttings, nursery maintenance, making planting beds in the field, maintenance with fertilization, weed control, pest control, and harvesting and harvest time . For training activities, implementation has been carried out in the form of direct practice in the field based on cultivation activities. The yield of essential oils obtained by yield between 2.14 -3.10 percent. Furthermore, the evaluation results show that the average farmer understanding of cultivation activities at the beginning of the new activity reaches 34.21% and the end of the activity has reached 100%. This is supported by chi squared analysis with a value of 5.36 and t table 3.48 of the test level of 5%. The level of income of farmers obtained for one hectare is Rp. 58,750,000.00 for six months or Rp. 9,791,000 / month / ha. This service program (PPDM) illustrates that intensive and measurable mentoring can improve farmers' knowledge in practicing patchouli cultivation with maximum sustainability.
Community Forest Program with nutmeg commodities, since the year 2010 followed by about 80% of farmers of Tanjung Jati Village, East Kotaagung District, Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province. Now nutmeg plants have begun to bear fruit, but the processing of the fruits is limited to drying of mace, seeds, and flesh, while the price of nutmeg flesh is still very low (wet Rp.2.000/kg or dry Rp.7.000/kg). This Community Service aims to provide short-term solutions to build a nutmeg processing business into candied, syrup, candy, dodol, wajik, wingko nutmeg flavour products, to increase the added value of the product. The object is Berkah Jaya Farmer Group and Khanggom Dipati Women Farmer Group from Banjar Sari Hamlet, Tanjung Jati Village. The Community Partnership Program is implemented with the following stages: nutmeg post-harvest handling, increased value added of processed nutmeg, business management training, business financial administration training, packaging design training and product promotion, product marketing assistance, consultation and guidance without limit. The running business is the production and sale of candied nutmegs with BEP 1.8 while other processed businesses have not yet received an adequate market.
