During the pandemic Covid-19, among the many long-distance communication applications, the teachers at SMAN 5 Baubau choose Whatsapp Group as learning media which could be used on weak networks and also does not consume internet quota like the others. The objectives of this study was to find the using of this application as a learning media at SMAN 5 Baubau and the impact of this application on the distance learning process during the covid-19 pandemic.
The present study used qualitative method. This research carried out in June - December 2020 at SMA Negeri 5 Baubau. The subjects in this study were 18 students at SMA Negeri 5 Baubau with details of Class X (6 people), Class XI (6 people) and Class XII (6 people). The instruments used in this research was interview. The findings showed that the majority of students did not have problems or obstacles in using this application. However, some students found it difficult in the learning process that depends on the chat in the group. Although students did not have obstacles in operating the application, but as a medium of learning students had many obstacles and WhatsApp as a learning medium would be more complicated if it is not supported by the creativity of the teacher.
The aim of this study was to what extent language learning strategies used by students give an impact on their English academic achievement. The instrument of the research was achievement test and interview. The intention of the researchers to take the achievement test was to find out English academic achievement of learners (English grade) in second semester academic year 2019/2020. The second instrument for gathering data concerning students’ strategies was semi-structured interview. In conclusion, 45 % of the variance in the English academic achievement of IPA 1 students can be explained by the language learning strategies used, while 57 % the variance of the English academic achievement of IPA 2 students can described by the LLS employed.
English textbook from government is issued for all the Indonesian students in junior high school. It should be used as the primary teaching material in English class. In fact, the English teachers in SMPN 4 Baubau meet some difficulties in applying that policy. The objective of this research was to find out the perception of English teachers related to textbook provided by government as a primary teaching material. This research used descriptive qualitative method with design case study. The sample of this research was three English teachers in SMPN4 Baubau. The findings showed the teachers did not use the government’s textbook as the primary but it was employed as the supporting teaching material and the teachers used other books from non-government publishers as the main textbook.
Mathematics students used memory strategies. The objective of the research was to find out the use of memory strategies by mathematics students. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The sample of this research was 10 mathematics students in the academic year 2022-2023. The findings showed the learners had different approaches to applying associating and elaborating strategy. It depended on their learning goals and preferred learning styles. Learning from social media and movies was used to increase vocabularies, and learning from music was used to pronounce English correctly. The learners used a mental picture by remembering the situation on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, movies, songs, or situations when playing a game
The aim of this study was to find out whether there is any significant effect of using ESA method in improving students’ vocabulary of eight grade students at SMP Negeri 9 Baubau. The instrument of the research was test (pre-test and post-test). The study lasted eight sessions, with one meeting serving as a pre-test, six meetings as treatment, and one meeting serving as a post-test. In analyzing the data, the researchers applied descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The study found that there was a significant improvement from the vocabularies of eight grade students who treated by ESA method in SMP Negeri 9 Baubau.
