AbstractThe detailed petrographical characters of Cenozoic volcanic rocks of Egypt are given. Two petrographic provinces have been identified: Abu Zaabal-Abu Rawash-Qatrani pro'Cince and Cairo-Suez-E1-Bahnasa-Tahna province. The rocks of the first one are doleritic basalts, while those of the second one are typical basalts. The weathering of the doleritic basalt, as especially observed in quarries, was also studied.
